How to Add and Manage Devices

How to add devices to your hub, what devices are compatible, and what to do if things aren't working

Adding Smart Devices to Your Hub

In this document, you will:

  • learn how to add smart devices – such as switches, dimmers, plugs, bulbs, motion or contact sensors, locks, and more — to your Hubitat Elevation smart home hub
  • discover troubleshooting steps to try if something goes wrong

Let's start by learning how to add a device!

1. Verify Compatibility

To add a device, first make sure your device is compatible:

The hub is compatible with most standard Zigbee, Z-Wave, and Matter devices, as well as a variety of LAN and cloud devices. (Note that a device is not compatible simply because it says it is "smart"; the manufacturer must follow standards or provide an open interface for integration that the hub can use. If you have a favorite device that isn't compatible, we suggest providing this feedback to the device manufacturer.)

The list above contains devices that are known to work with built-in drivers. However, many more standard devices should work with built-in drivers, and third-party apps and drivers allow you to integrate an even wider variety of devices that we have not tested.

2. Add Device

Follow the instructions in this video to add a device to your Hubitat Elevation hub using the mobile app:
